Health & Wellness
Vitalité 55+ is proud to present a project in collaboration with the Réseau Santé en français de la Saskatchewan, aimed at improving access to healthcare services for seniors. Scheduled to be implemented in the coming years (2024-2028), this program will focus on several key areas, including: home care, palliative and end-of-life care, as well as age-related mental health.
Project Objectives
In close collaboration with the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA), this project aims to facilitate access for French-speaking seniors to care that is tailored to their linguistic and cultural needs. To achieve this goal, we will implement the following actions:
Identification of
Linguistic Barriers
Development of Resources in the French Language
Awareness & Collaboration
Research & Evaluation
In March 2023, the SHA published a report on the bilingual capacity of its staff, showing that 989 out of 40,000 employees speak French, which amounts to a measly 2.5%. Currently, this resource is underutilized. As part of this project, we will work with the SHA to identify areas within the system that could be adapted to assess linguistic needs and facilitate services in French whenever possible.
To enable the SHA to better serve patients in their language of choice, we will create educational tools, guides, digital platforms, and accessible information services in French. This will ensure that the available resources are relevant and tailored to the needs of healthcare professionals as well as French-speaking seniors.
We will engage communities, decision-makers, and health organizations to raise awareness about the importance of providing care in French to seniors. This engagement will be especially crucial in critical areas such as palliative care and mental health.
We will measure the impact of the initiatives implemented to assess their effectiveness and identify opportunities to continue improving access to healthcare in French.
Commitment to Health Equity
This project highlights the various mechanisms that promote the development and implementation of systems that facilitate access for seniors to healthcare services in French. Our goal is to ensure health equity while respecting the specific needs of French-speaking seniors.
